Physical Education
Intent
Our P.E curriculum ensures that we meet the requirements of the National Curriculum. All children have a weekly P.E lesson with our sports coaching partner. Children receive expert coaching to develop fundamental skills through a variety of activities and games suitable to their key stage.
Our P.E curriculum is sequenced precisely to ensure progression of knowledge and skills throughout our children’s primary education, thus enabling children to build upon prior experiences and apply these fluently, with confidence. Children also have the opportunity to further these skills at after school sports clubs thus making club links within the community. Inter and intra sports competitions are a particular strength of the school through our partnership with the Holmes Chapel Cluster Schools.
We believe that Physical Education is fundamental in developing healthy lifestyles in young people and at Lower Peover we provide a wide range of opportunities to develop this through sporting skills taught outside of the normal curriculum time. Regular extra-curricular clubs are very popular and we offer a wide variety of sports, including: Dance, Football, Hockey, Netball, Yoga and Multi-Skills. In Key Stage two, all children have the opportunity to attend swimming lessons so that every child leaves our school as a competent swimmer.
At Lower Peover, we also recognise the importance of being physically active throughout the school day, so to reduce sedentary learning, we are launching the ‘Daily Mile’ to help meet the government target of all children being physically active for 60 minutes per day.
